Helping out our taxpayers...............

It’s that time of year again and, yes, the Library has tax forms available. The IRS does not send out the packages that they used to send us. Instead, if you need a form, we download it from the net and print it for you. Forms are $.20 a sheet - most forms are two pages. If you need a special tax form please feel free to come to the desk and ask a librarian.

Fun Factoid: Today is “National Freethinkers Day.” So let’s all go out there and think…it’s free…it’s fun!!

Valentine's Day raffle becomes a ROAD SHOW!!!

Librarians Brenda and Elizabeth loaded up the Valentine's Day Raffle Basket and went out soliciting. All proceeds are used to help fund the 2008 Summer Reading Program. The librarians received good support - and - ahhhh, had a good time as well.

More reading fun.............

We are all well aware of the power of the press. A couple of weeks ago, Director Dawn and I recommended some books that we had read and enjoyed. Well, we were BLOWN AWAY by the response we got. All of the Charles Martin and Ferrol Sam books have been checked out and there are a bunch of reserves put on them. Bright idea alert: if you have a favorite author you would like to recommend to the librarians, stop by the library and let us know. Randy Burns had a recommendation a month or so back and we were happy to recommend it. Again, that book got a bump in circulation. We also love to recommend some of the old stand-bys. Louis L’Amour, Agatha Christie and Robert B. Parker are some of our oldies but goodies that get a lot of circulation action. They are just good satisfying reads. So stop by the library and ask or recommend, we love listening to our patrons.

More interesting partnerships..............

The Library has been contacted by the South Carolina Bar, Pro Bono Division. They have requested our partnership in offering two legal clinics. The first clinic will be on Workers Compensation and will be offered on March 10, 2008; the second clinic will cover the topic of Social Security Disability and will be offered on April 7, 2008. Each clinic will consist of a 30-45 minute lecture followed by an open question and answer session. The clinics are free and available to anyone who wishes to attend. If you have questions please call the library and ask for Elizabeth.

Summer Reading 2008

This year’s Summer Reading Program theme is “Catch the Reading Bug.” This theme seemed naturally to tie in with the Lee State Natural Area. Ranger Laura Kirk was in the Library the other day and has graciously agreed to partner with us for this program. This year’s program promises to be a lot of fun. Young people and bugs – a natural fit! Keep checking as we develop the program schedule – we will post each event in this column

happy 2008 to everyone...........

Now that the Holidays have come and gone it’s a good time to clean up around the Library. So, once again, the Library is having the annual “give away the magazines” week!! Into home improvement? “The Family Handyman” is a great magazine that gives you complete project plans and material lists. All you have to provide is the labor. Want to hang out with Rachel, Oprah or Martha? We’ve got them all as well as just about every home decorating book available.
