2008 LCL Summer Readers at Ovis Hill Farm
The Summer Readers went to Ovis Hill Farm in Timmonsville. We learned about food and fiber and also the story of shep and wool. We had hands on experience feed baby lambs and calves. Finally we went on a hay wagon and went to the field for a demonstration of the border collie, Diz, herding the sheep.

Summer Reading Kick Off....
Tuesday, June 17th was the kick off for the 2008 Summer Reading Program. The theme, "Catch the Reading Bug," plended itself perfectly to a visit to the Lee State Natural Area.
We not only caught the Reading Bug, we caught a BUNCH of creepy crawly things.
Park Ranger Laura Kirk took us on a grand tour of the pond where we hauled out insect samples. Then it was off to the lab to look at them under the microscope. We had a BALL!!! (Oh yeah, and we learned some stuff too!!)
Special thanks to Laura for her great introduction to the world of insects and the natural world around us.

When I posted this photo to the Flickr account I misidentified Mr. Eric Parker. So, here we have two of Bishopville's finest - Mr. nathanial Bradley and Mr. Eric Parker.
Sorry Eric - my bad - my apology!!!

Good partnerships = strong communities
Librarian Elizabeth partnered with the Pilot Club of Bishopville who donated an aquatic lift to Camp Burnt Gin so that the campers could more easily get in the swimming pool.
Camp Burnt Gin is a summer camp offering a variety of camping experiences for disabled and children with special needs.
A visit to this camp is truly inspiring - an opportunity to glimpse at the strength of human spirit and compassion.

Gift to the Chief
When Clifford visited the Library a few weeks back, we got a great picture of Chief John Ewing, his daughter Lauren and Clifford. We thought it would make a great gift for Chief John's office. (Just in time for Father's Day!!!)
Here, Librarian Brenda presents the framed copy to Chief John. (Who seemed a little more than touched by the gesture!)
Thanks Chief for all you do.
